Music Living Learning Community: A collaboration between the Department of Music in the College of Arts, Media, and Communication and Student Housing, the Music Living Learning Community (LLC) is specifically designed for Music majors to cultivate today’s musician. The Music LLC provides direct links between the collegiate music student’s academic experiences and their living environment. Understanding the collaborative nature of musicianship, this community allows Music majors to live in the same residence hall and participate in a supportive creative and academic environment.

This community is exclusively for Music majors. As a member of this community, you will have access to sound-proof practice room spaces for individual and chamber rehearsal, pianos/keyboards, and recording equipment--all within your residence hall.

Our skilled Resident Advisor staff will partner with Music LLC residents to begin creating a resident- and music-driven community identity. Community activities may include tips on auditions presented by faculty of the music department, musical showcases, musicianship study nights, and musical field trips to popular music venues located throughout the L.A. area. CSUN’s geographic location within Los Angeles enables the Music LLC residents to experience of L.A.’s strong music concert and recording industry scene.

Eligibility: Any student accepted into the music major in the Department of Music in the College of Arts, Media, and Communication is eligible to live in the Music LLC. This applies to the following emphasis areas within the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Music, the Master of Arts and the Master of Music degrees:

• BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA): Music Education, Music Industry Studies, Music Therapy, and Breadth Studies in Music.
• BACHELOR OF MUSIC (BM): Performance (Orchestral Strings, Classical Guitar, Winds, Percussion, Keyboard (Piano and Organ) and Vocal Arts), Composition, Commercial and Media Writing, and Jazz Studies.
• MASTER OF ARTS (MA): Music Education
• MASTER OF MUSIC (MM): Composition, Conducting (Choral or Instrumental), or Performance (Guitar, Organ, Percussion, Piano, Strings, Winds and Voice).

Space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

There is an entrance audition process that each student must go through in order to be an accepted music major. This audition is held the semester prior to a student coming to CSUN. Students that have been accepted into the music major will show a concentration on their SOLAR portal such as vocal arts, jazz studies, or music industry studies. Those that are not but have an interest in music will only show music as their concentration. Only those students with specific concentration will be accepted into the Music LLC.
